Hammock Camping Tips
The humble hammock has been around for thousands of years, and it is still used today in parts of the world as a primary sleeping accommodation. Yet many people I speak with think hammocks are “uncomfortable,” or it will hurt their back,” or “they’re great for summer lounging only,” or “it’s too easy to fall out.” A lot of these misconceptions come from the modern rope hammocks with their spreader bars and large woven nets. These hammocks are notoriously tippy, due to their high center of gravity and tight pitch. Unfortunately, they’ve given authentic hammocks a bad wrap.
Most camping hammocks are based on the original, authentic Brazilian or Mayan styles of South America with their deep sag, tight weave, and gathered ends. Here are some quick tips for getting started with hammock camping, including getting that perfect Brazilian hang.
1. Use webbing straps around trees or other anchor points. One to 1.5 in (2.5 to 3.8 cm) polyester or polypropylene webbing straps help disperse the weight and reduce damage to trees or other objects. Polyester and polypropylene are also low-stretch, so you won’t sag during the night (avoid nylon straps, which stretch).
2. Angle your hammock suspension (rope) at around 30°. Pitching a hammock too tight between anchor points puts an enormous amount of force on the suspension lines and hammock, leading to potential failure (and discomfort). A tight pitch also raises the center of gravity, making the hammock unsteady. Pitching the hammock at 30° ensures you get a deep sag (tip #2).
3. Get a deep(ish) sag. Like a friendly smile, a hammock should be low in the center and high near the ends. With a deep sag, it is very difficult to accidentally fall out, thanks to the low center of gravity and high fabric walls. A deep sag allows you to lay on the diagonal (tip #3).
4. Lay on the diagonal. A lot of beginners try to sleep in line with the hammock, curving their bodies into a banana shape. I find that this takes a lot of effort, because with a good sag, your feet naturally slide to one side or the other, finding a “pocket” of fabric. By angling your body askew of center, you fall into a ergonomically flat position (it looks a bit like a recumbent bicyclist), where the hammock takes away all the pressure points naturally. The diagonal lay is the key to comfort in a gathered-end hammock.
5. Insulate underneath. Hammocks are a godsend in hot, muggy areas where the extra air circulation makes outdoor camping tolerable. But as temperatures drop below 70°F (21°C), you’ll start to feel the effects of convective heat loss known as Cold Butt Syndrome (CBS). A sleeping pad (closed-cell foam or self-inflating) works great, and some hangers use them year-round. Purpose-built “under quilts” are another popular option for keeping you warm underneath. For hot summer nights, you may only need a thin blanket to regulate your temperature.
6. Guard against flying bugs. When flying bugs (mosquitos, moths, midges, biting flies, etc.) are a problem, you’ll want bug netting to protect you. Some camping hammocks have sewn-in netting, but you can purchase after-market netting too. My Hammock Manufacturer List indicates which retailers sell hammock bug netting.
7. Protect yourself from rain. A basic 8×10 tarp is more than adequate to protect you from rain and wind. You can also find models with extra tie-outs for more pitching options. You can pitch tarps in a variety of styles, including a basic diamond configuration, an “A”-frame, or a fully-enclosed shelter with doors on the ends.

Hang Angle - Hangle
Just Right | Suspension angle at or near 30 degrees. Suspension lines extend up at about the same angle as the hammock. Ridgeline is tight, but can be flexed with your hand. Stress on suspension is roughly equal to your body weight. Hammock only sinks a few inches when you get in. Your hammock is most comfortable with the proper amount of sag. |
---|---|
Too Flat | Suspension angle below 30 degrees. Ridgeline is too tight, can't be flexed with your hand. Stress on suspension can be much greater * than your body weight. Hammock is uncomfortable and has tight ridge down the center. Your hammock sinks several inches when you get in, even if you hang it extra high. Corrective ActionLengthen suspension.Lower hammock. Move straps up higher on the tree. Choose a pair of trees closer together. * Warning - Hanging your hammock with the suspension too flat can exceed the ratings on the individual suspension parts and cause the hammock to fall causing injury. |
Too Steep | Suspension angle above 30 degrees. Ridgeline saggy or flexes too easily. Stress on suspension is less than your body weight. Hammock feels saggy and uncomfortable. Not enough room around shoulders or feet. Hammock forces you into a "banana" shape. Bug netting sags against you. Corrective ActionShorten suspension.Raise hammock. Move straps down lower on the tree. Choose a pair of trees farther apart. |
Ten Etiquette Rules for Men
Pay Attention to Details
You know what truly ruins a dapper tweed suit? Try untrimmed nails, a unibrow, or slovenly neck beard. A well-groomed body is the canvas upon which your sartorial masterpiece is built. Never leave the house, even for takeout, without clean teeth, clean clothes, and a fresh swipe of deodorant at a minimum.Be On Time
When you arrange an appointment to meet with someone, you’ve made a promise. Punctuality conveys reliability and self-discipline; being late shows disrespect. If you have time-management issues, try figuring out the root of the problem. Maybe you need to lay out clothes the night before, or keep essentials near the front door for easy finding.Use a Proper Greeting
Greet new acquaintances with a firm handshake and a friendly smile. Make eye contact when you’re introduced to someone and repeat the person’s name to help you remember it. “Hi Andrew, I’m Eric — pleased to meet you.”“Yo, bro, what’s up?” is merely annoying when young people use slang, but it’s downright embarrassing between men.
Never Show Up Empty-Handed
When you are invited to someone’s home, whether for a formal dinner party or an afternoon barbecue, always bring a gift for the host or hostess. Alcohol, flowers, and chocolates are all well-received gifts. If you know the host or hostess well, consider a more carefully chosen gift.Practice Good Table Manners
Perhaps nothing distinguishes a gentleman more thoroughly than good dining etiquette. Turn off your cell phone when dining with others, even in casual settings. Learn the art of polite conversation so you can carry your weight at a party.Never put a dirty napkin on the table until the meal is completed; if you must leave the table, place your napkin on your seat.
Know How to Treat a Woman
Fifty years of feminism be damned: Opening doors for a woman or offering her your arm as you walk down the street isn’t misogynistic. Take the check when the bill comes to the table and avoid making a fuss over paying. Of course, if she insists on paying, you should let her. If you know the weather is going to be questionable, remember a large enough umbrella to fit two!Remember the one exception to the ladies-first rule: A gentleman gets into a cab first and slides across the seat to make room for a woman. Avoid making her muss her dress scooting across the seat.
Don’t Deal in Vulgarities
Off-color jokes and profanity have no place in a professional man’s vocabulary, especially in public places or in front of a woman. In a small group of male friends you know well, an occasional vulgarity is fine, but in other situations a foul mouth is a mark of bad manners. There are other less vulgar ways to communicate the same feelings or expressions.Know Your Limits
Appreciating a fine cocktail or craft microbrew is perfectly acceptable, desirable even, for a gentleman. However, getting sloppy in public is not acceptable, especially not during a date or a business outing. It’s fine to throw back a few drinks with the guys in the privacy of your home, but going all Ernest Hemingway at the pub is an entirely different matter. And a gentleman never orders a drink named for a sexual position.Be Discreet at Work
Keep the company’s business private; never share sensitive information or insider secrets. When visitors enter your office, tuck away open files and papers. Always tell callers if you’re putting them on speakerphone.Don’t volunteer information. Say “Dave’s not in,” not “Dave’s at a meeting at Capital Bank with Bill Jones.” Stay away from office gossip and avoid dating co-workers; it only leads to trouble and isn’t good form.
Learn How to Listen
The scientific breakdown of human communication is 9 percent writing, 16 percent reading, 30 percent speaking, and 45 percent listening. Formal education covers the first three parts; a gentleman must practice to master the fourth. When people are speaking, give them your full attention. Avoid interrupting, fidgeting, or showing signs of impatience.New War Crimes in Germany
The UN Commission of Experts identified 1,600 actual cases of rape in the Bosnian War that took place in the former Yugoslavia over a period of years. In Germany, 2,000 Muslim migrants sexually assaulted 1,200 women in a single night in cities across Germany.
The former was considered one of the worst war crimes of the decade. Its perpetrators were bombed and then faced war crimes trials. The perpetrators of the latter received a slap on the wrist.
In Cologne, Hassan and Hussein were handed suspended sentences. Hassan, who had demanded that a man hand over two women to him by bellowing, “Give me the girls, give me the girls - or you're dead” was tried as a juvenile offender and was sentenced to community service and an integration course.
The integration course will no doubt try to inform Hassan that women have a right not to be assaulted even if they are outside the house and unaccompanied by a male guardian. But such “Don’t Rape” classes for Muslim migrants have had a rather shaky track record.
A 16-year-old Muslim Afghan migrant raped a catering worker in France despite receiving a course on how to treat women in Flanders. Hassan, despite being tried as a juvenile, wasn’t a teenager at the time of his offense. He was a 20-year-old. But German courts still decided to treat him as a mischievous teenager. If the “boys will be boys” excuse has fallen out of favor in Europe, the pass still holds true for Muslim rapists who will always be boys. Even when they’re fully grown men.
In the Norwegian version of the “Don’t Rape” class, Muslim migrants were trained on how not to rape by being given positive role models. There was a bad fellow named Arne, a native Norwegian, who treats everyone badly, and Hassan, a charming Muslim immigrant who gets it right.
Be like Hassan. Don’t be like Arne.
But the real life version of Hassan was a sexual predator who had walked away laughing from the court room with a suspended sentence while his victims, who had come out to testify, wept.
Now Hassan will giggle his way through yet another “Don’t Rape” class and this one may also have Hassan as a positive role model. And then Hassan will be out there for the next New Year’s Eve knowing that he will get away with it all over again. And by then he might be a slightly older “juvenile”.
The majority of the Muslim rapists came from North African countries. Half of them had been in Germany for less than one year. If there were a UN tribunal to be held for the war crimes committed by Muslim migrants against European women, Frau Merkel should be sitting in the dock.
It was her decision to open the borders that led to the horror inflicted on 1,200 women in one night.
And 1,200 women is just a single episode. We don’t know the full total numbers. And we may never know them. Yet at this rate it’s entirely possible that the total of Merkelicide might exceed even the wildest inflated estimates from the Bosnian war. And yet it’s considered indelicate to discuss such things because this time around Muslims aren’t the victims, they are the perpetrators.

Jihadists Behead Priest in French Church
Kermiche and a second unidentified attacker stormed the church, forced priest Jacques Hamel to kneel before they killed him, and captured the bloody assault on film, according to a nun who escaped the assault.
"They forced him to his knees. He wanted to defend himself. And that's when the tragedy happened," said the nun, identified as Sister Danielle.
"They recorded themselves. They did a sort of sermon around the altar, in Arabic. It's a horror," she told BFM television. Molins said the other hostages were used as human shields to block police from entering.
Both attackers were shot dead by anti-terror police units as they ran outside the sanctuary shouting "Allahu Akbar!" One had three knives and a fake explosives belt, Molins said; the other carried a kitchen timer wrapped in aluminum foil and had fake explosives in his backpack.

Obama Sides With The Islamic Religion, Supports Erdogan And The Islamist Government
During a phone call tonight with Secretary of State John Kerry, President Obama said that the democratically elected government of Turkey should be supported, according to a statement from the White House.
The president and Kerry also agreed that “all parties” should “show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed.”
The president’s remarks come just as 17 police officers were reported killed in a helicopter attack on their headquarters on the outskirts of the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Amazingly, Obama supported the Islamist revolutions in Egypt, Libya and Syria, but this revolution, which is anti-Islamic. It looks like this revolution is a Reichstag Fire: conspire a coup through military informants acting as though they are for revolution, rile up the soldiers and get them to revolt, crush it and then use it as a justification for full scale tyranny.

Praise to the Lord the Almighty
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
The King of creation
O my soul, praise Him
For He is thy health and salvation
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near
Join me in glad adoration
Praise to the Lord
Who o'er all things so wonderfully reigneth
Shelters thee under His wings
Yea, so gladly sustaineth
Hast thou not seen how thy glories e'er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth
Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him
All that hath life and breath
Come now with praises before Him
Let the 'amen' sound from His people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him
Performed by the London Philharmonic Choir and National Philharmonic Orchestra.
Arranged by: Lee Holdridge
Conducted by: John Alldis
Written by: Joachim Neander in 1680 and is a hymn based on his chorale, Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König der Ehren.
Catherine Winkworth published her English version of this hymn in the year 1863.
Neander's hymn paraphrases Psalms 103 and 150.

Fables About Islam and Destroying America From Within
March 6, 2015 • From theTrumpet.com
On February 18, President Barack Obama told an audience at a conference on “Countering Violent Extremism” that “Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding.”
Really?
The president continued: “Generations of Muslim immigrants came here and went to work as farmers and merchants and factory workers, helped to lay railroads and build up America.”
Was Islam really woven into the fabric of the United States anywhere near its founding? The first mosque in America wasn’t even built until 1915—after the commencement of World War i, about 140 years after the nation was founded, 308 years after the colony at Jamestown was established.
Sure, there may have been some Muslims who traveled to America during those early years, but to suggest they had a major role in shaping America isn’t true. Even today, only 0.6 percent of the population is Muslim.
In reality, the major contribution of Muslims to America has been profoundly negative.
Immediately after America gained its independence from Britain, the Barbary States, located in North Africa, attacked American shipping. Hundreds of American sailors were captured and sold into slavery by these Muslim nations beginning in 1784. In 1795, the U.S. government paid $1 million—one sixth of its entire budget—to ransom captured crews and ships.
That would be about $630 billion worth of America’s annual budget today.
When Thomas Jefferson went to negotiate with one of the Barbary States’ ambassadors, he asked why the Barbary States made war on nations that had done them no injury. Jefferson recorded the ambassador’s response (“Making of America,” Atlantic Monthly, Vol. 30):
It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise.
He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy’s ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once.
To that point in America’s history, extortion is the most significant Muslim contribution toward America.
It wasn’t until 1801 that America finally stopped paying tribute to Tripoli. That was the year America struck back with force—sending its newly constructed navy and a message that targeting Americans would no longer be tolerated.
According to historian David Barton, the only other major contribution Muslims made to early America was selling slaves to American slave traders.

Supremes Rule by Not Ruling in Crucial Religious Liberty Case
No need to worry that the sky will fall when a lifelong liberal like Shrillary or Trump makes horrific appointments to the Supreme Court. As far as the Supremes are concerned, the sky has already fallen. Five moonbats are all the Left needs to impose tyranny, as we see in the case of Ralph’s Thriftway of Olympia, Washington, a family-owned grocery store that for moral reasons does not want to sell products used to kill unborn children:
But that wasn’t good enough for pro-abortion militants, who have the law on their side:
http://moonbattery.com/?p=74131http://moonbattery.com/?p=74131
“Petitioners are Christians who believe that life is sacred from the moment of conception,” lawyers representing Stormans, Inc. (the family corporation that owns Ralph’s) and two individual pharmacists (who do not work at Ralph’s) wrote in a January petition to the Supreme Court. You want a morning after pill? No problem. Over 30 pharmacies within 5 miles of Ralph’s carry them. That’s not counting government health centers, Planned Parenthood, doctor’s offices, et cetera.
“Because of their religious beliefs,” said the petition (co-authored by attorneys from the Beckett Fund and the Alliance Defending Freedom), “petitioners cannot stock or dispense the morning-after or week-after pills, which the FDA has recognized can prevent implantation of an embryo.
“For petitioners,” the lawyers told the court, “dispensing these drugs would make them guilty of destroying human life.”
But that wasn’t good enough for pro-abortion militants, who have the law on their side:
Nine years ago, the Washington Board of Pharmacy issued regulations that effectively barred pharmacies in the state from declining to stock or sell abortifacient “emergency contraceptives” for moral or religious reasons.Good thing we have courts to protect us from regulations that brazenly violate our First Amendment liberties. Judge Ronald Leighton ruled in favor of the good guys in 2012, concluding,
“The facts of this case lead to the inescapable conclusion that the board’s rules discriminate intentionally and impinge plaintiffs’ fundamental right to free exercise of religion.”But if at first they don’t succeed, tyrants try and try again. The infamously leftist 9th Circus Court of Appeals overturned the ruling.

Riots In St Paul MN shut down I-94
More than 100 people were arrested and 21 police officers injured in Minnesota Saturday night when protests over recent police killings of black men morphed into rioting.
St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman detailed at a Sunday press conference what he called an “extreme incident” Saturday night that led to 102 arrests after protesters pelted police officers with rocks, rebar and incendiary devices, including Molotov cocktails. The injuries to officers were “significant, but none were life-threatening,” Coleman said.

Pentagon planes showing age
Years of budget cuts have left the U.S. military with a decrepit air fleet that could compromise armed service branches' ability to perform in battle, Pentagon brass told lawmakers Wednesday.
Leaders from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines appeared on Capitol Hill to testify before members of the House Armed Services Committee. All complained that the planes and helicopters needed to protect the nation and project power are getting dangerously long in the tooth.
“[If] a B-17 [bomber] that flew in World War II had flown in Desert Storm, the aircraft bombers we are using today are older than those B-17s would have been,” Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott West told the Subcommittee on Readiness. “It’s an aged fleet.”
Over and over, military leaders cited the budget cuts brought on by sequestration, a Congressional budget deal that limits military spending.
“The Navy continues readiness recovery …but continued shortfalls in ship and shore facilities sustainment coupled with aging aircraft inventory will eventually have negative effects on our long-term readiness.,” Navy Rear Adm. Michael Manazir said.

America Died At 11:00 ET 7/5/2016
The Rule of Law no longer exists in America.
The law is clear. Knowingly removing classified documents is a criminal offense.
The very setting up of such a server and transmission or reception of classified material violates the statute since it is not possible to accidentally cross the SIPRNet boundary. It can only be occur through intentional conduct.
Further, there has been zero mention of the Clinton Foundation and what facially appears to have been the selling of favors by the Clintons during and after Hillary's time in office.
Here is the section of US law that Comey admitted and stated that the FBI found Hillary violated:
In short:
The Rule of Law was officially burned and buried today on live television by the Director of the FBI.
You therefore no longer have any moral requirement to adhere to same; your entire analysis must now rest on whether you are sufficiently afraid of being shot -- and nothing more.

(f) Whoever, being entrusted with or having lawful possession or control of any document, writing, code book, signal book, sketch, photograph, photographic negative, blueprint, plan, map, model, instrument, appliance, note, or information, relating to the national defense, (1) through gross negligence permits the same to be removed from its proper place of custody or delivered to anyone in violation of his trust, or to be lost, stolen, abstracted, or destroyed, or (2) having knowledge that the same has been illegally removed from its proper place of custody or delivered to anyone in violation of its trust, or lost, or stolen, abstracted, or destroyed, and fails to make prompt report of such loss, theft, abstraction, or destruction to his superior officer—and
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.
(g) If two or more persons conspire to violate any of the foregoing provisions of this section, and one or more of such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each of the parties to such conspiracy shall be subject to the punishment provided for the offense which is the object of such conspiracy.Which in turn implicates Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and every one of the people who worked on said server or in Hillary's entourage and knew what Hillary was doing.
In short:
The Rule of Law was officially burned and buried today on live television by the Director of the FBI.
You therefore no longer have any moral requirement to adhere to same; your entire analysis must now rest on whether you are sufficiently afraid of being shot -- and nothing more.

Churches fight back against Iowa
Two churches are fighting back against the Iowa Civil Rights Commission after the agency issued an interpretation of state law that could bar churches from expressing biblical views on sexuality and gender identity — even from the Sunday pulpit.
Fort Des Moines Church of Christ filed a federal lawsuit against the commission on Monday, arguing that the agency’s interpretation of the Iowa Civil Rights Act violates the First Amendment.
Christiana Holcomb, legal counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom, which represents the church, said it is difficult to “imagine a more obvious unconstitutional invasion of the state into the internal affairs of the church” than what the Civil Rights Commission is proposing.
“Churches should be free to teach their religious beliefs and operate their houses of worship according to their faith without being threatened by the government,” Ms. Holcomb said in a statement. “That is a foundational First Amendment principle.”
The lawsuit came in response to an explanatory brochure titled “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity — A Public Accommodations Provider’s Guide to Iowa Law,” released by the Civil Rights Commission. It says churches are public accommodations and therefore generally subject to the Iowa Civil Rights Act.

ISIS tightens grip on sex slaves
The advertisement on the Telegram app is as chilling as it is incongruous: A girl for sale is "Virgin. Beautiful. 12 years old.... Her price has reached $12,500 and she will be sold soon."
The posting in Arabic appeared on an encrypted conversation along with ads for kittens, weapons and tactical gear. It was shared with The Associated Press by an activist with the minority Yazidi community, whose women and children are being held as sex slaves by the extremists.
While the Islamic State group is losing territory in its self-styled caliphate, it is tightening its grip on the estimated 3,000 women and girls held as sex slaves. In a fusion of ancient barbaric practices and modern technology, IS sells the women like chattel on smart phone apps and shares databases that contain their photographs and the names of their "owners" to prevent their escape through IS checkpoints. The fighters are assassinating smugglers who rescue the captives, just as funds to buy the women out of slavery are drying up.
The thousands of Yazidi women and children were taken prisoner in August 2014, when IS fighters overran their villages in northern Iraq with the aim to eliminate the Kurdish-speaking minority because of its ancient faith. Since then, Arab and Kurdish smugglers managed to free an average of 134 people a month. But by May, an IS crackdown reduced those numbers to just 39 in the last six weeks, according to figures provided by the Kurdistan regional government.

Reknowned Jesuit Fr. Edmund Walsh On Defense Of Christian Civilization
Fr. Walsh, S.J. and Gen MacArthur |
"greater need for clear heads, steady hands and great hearts at the controls of human destiny, for men who walk humbly in the sight of God but keep their powder dry"
Walsh's most stridently militarist position was his justification of a peremptory nuclear first strike by the United States against the Soviet Union. Writing immediately after the outbreak of war on the Korean peninsula which he interpreted as the "final confrontation" between "two great centers of world power whose basic and irreconcilable character" was known to Soviets decades ago, Walsh argued that all states were obligated to protect their populations from attack. Preemptive attacks were morally just. The United States, for example, would have been justified in intercepting and destroying the Japanese aircraft attacking Pearl Harbor. With a "Soviet feint in some remote area of Asia or the Middle East," the U.S. defense system had better keep its eyes fixed on the Northwest and Arctic sector for a sneak surprise attack.
If the U.S. government had "sound reason to believe (that is, had moral certitude)" that a surprise attack was being planned then President Truman was justified in "taking measures proportionate to the danger" including use of atomic bombs.
While the results would be tragic and horrific, there was no immorality in the United States government choosing the lesser of two evils. Walsh justified military force in the abstract by pointing out that "even Christ himself did not disdain to seize the lash and drive the hypocrites out of the Temple". Writing on this same issue of the atom bomb and the Christian conscience in Total Empire he ends the book with the rather ominous sentence: "The debate is not whether we can afford to do the necessary things for the defense of Christian civilization -- but can we afford not to do them?"
