Judge Concerned about Campus Free Speech Restrictions

AP Photo/Valentina Petrova
In a lecture at Harvard Law School on Monday, Loretta A. Preska, chief judge of the U.S. District Court of Southern New York, said she was concerned about the decreasing tolerance for speech on American university campuses.

“A campus with a so-called free speech zone is one in which free speech is allowed in certain designated areas, but not any place else,” Preska stated, adding that “these zones allow administrators to banish protesters to remote or marginal parts of the campus.” Preska suggested that free speech zones are themselves an example of the reduced tolerance for free speech on university campuses.

“The limiting of public discourse is already occurring, and in my view, the most troublesome of those places is the place where the views of the future leaders of our country are formed: on university campuses,” Preska said.

Preska noted that although restrictions on speech are often well-intended, the broad language of university speech policy often results in permissible non-violent speech being shut down.

Marquette Professor Banned from Campus for Defending Debate over Catholic Positions

John McAdams

A recent example, which has entered into national headlines, arose when a graduate student in philosophy, Cheryl Abbate, teaching a course on ethics at Marquette University (a Catholic-Jesuit institution ), was discussing John Rawls’ “Equal Liberty” principle, which affirms individual freedom unless the rights of others are impugned.

When Abbate asked in class for examples where this principle might be employed, one student offered the example of bans on same-sex marriage as flouting the principle. After class, a student recorded a conversation with Abbate on his smartphone (legal in Wisconsin and thirty-seven other states). He complained to her that discussion of same-sex marriage had been too abruptly cut off in class, and offered some arguments he thought reasonable against same-sex marriage.

Abbate responded that the discussion of certain topics would be “inappropriate,” including “sexist” or “racist” opinions. She reminded the student that if he did not want to avoid bringing up inappropriate topics, he could withdraw from the class. He did, and expressed his disappointment about his apparent muzzling to tenured Professor of Political Science, John McAdams, who sided with the student in his conservative and independent blog, and criticized the philosophy instructor for unnecessarily restraining the free speech of her students.

Hundreds of supporting messages and condemnations ensued for both McAdams and Abbate, not only from Marquette, but from other parts of the country. Some included insults or invectives. In the aftermath, McAdams has been suspended with pay, his courses for the Spring semester have been cancelled, and he has been prohibited by administrators from setting foot on the campus.

He has received legal support, however, from the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL). And Ms. Abbate has gratefully accepted the invitation to finish her doctoral work at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

McAdams’ suspension was rather strange for a Catholic University, especially one at which, for example, tenured Professor Daniel Maguire, nationally famous for his pro-abortion views, regularly teaches in the theology department without any restrictions. Do faculty statutes allow blatant opposition to Catholic teachings, but fail to support the academic freedom of a tenured professor to voice an opinion about what can be said or not in class discussions?

Rupert Murdoch’s Ex-Wife in Relationship with Vladimir Putin

Us Magazine has published a report claiming Russian president Vladimir Putin is dating Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife Wendi Deng in their “new couple alert” section, although the report also concedes that “reports of the pair have been floating around for years, ever since their respective divorces in 2014 and 2013.”

According to the report, a Putin insider says the relationship between 63-year-old Putin and 47-year old Cheng has become “serious.”

Putin ended a 30-year marriage to the mother of his two adult daughters, Lyudmila Putina, in 2014, after which he was romantically linked to Russian gymnast Alina Kabaeva. Kabaeva was rumored to have secretly borne Putin a love child at a Swiss hospital last year, a rumor the Kremlin dismissed as a “journalistic hoax.”

Deng’s rumored connection to Putin seems a bit tenuous, as Us admits she has “yet to be spotted looking romantic with the Russian leader,” although they have some very wealthy mutual friends. Deng divorced Murdoch after 14 years of marriage in 2013, supposedly because he grew suspicious she was having an affair with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Just about all of the many media reports buzzing about a Putin-Deng relationship trace back to Us Weekly – which, as noted above, admits it is an unsubstantiated rumor, although Vanity Fair says that rumor has “apparently been traveling among a certain set for some time.”

Busy People Get More Done

If you want something done ask a busy person, goes the adage, but research suggests that this might well be true.

The busier you are, the more likely you are to complete tasks, particularly those whose deadlines have been missed, found Keith Wilcox of Columbia University and his team. Getting behind is demoralising, but Professor Wilcox discovered that busier people are better at bouncing back from a missed deadline and are more likely to get the task done — and more quickly. The theory is that while you may have missed one deadline, with other tasks completed and with others on the go, you feel that you are still winning the productivity war.

“Our research shows that being busy is one way to reduce the sense of failure,” he says.
According to the study, keeping yourself and your staff busy is a simple way to continue getting things done, even when deadlines have been missed. Rather than giving yourself or others more to do, you should instead break down larger tasks into smaller ones. This will make you feel busier without increasing your workload. But make sure you are busy with productive tasks and not simply those that occupy time, says Prof Wilcox.

Psalm 27

Psalm 27English Standard Version (ESV)

The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation

Of David.

27 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold[a] of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
    to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
    it is they who stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
    my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
    yet[b] I will be confident.
One thing have I asked of the Lord,
    that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
    and to inquire[c] in his temple.
For he will hide me in his shelter
    in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
    he will lift me high upon a rock.
And now my head shall be lifted up
    above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
    sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
    be gracious to me and answer me!
You have said, “Seek[d] my face.”
My heart says to you,
    “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”[e]
    Hide not your face from me.
Turn not your servant away in anger,
    O you who have been my help.
Cast me not off; forsake me not,
    O God of my salvation!
10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
    but the Lord will take me in.
11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
    and lead me on a level path
    because of my enemies.
12 Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
    for false witnesses have risen against me,
    and they breathe out violence.
13 I believe[f] that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living!
14 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!

Old Spice

Old Spice:

The first Old Spice® product, called Early American Old Spice for women, was introduced in 1937, closely followed by Old Spice for men in 1938. The Old Spice products were manufactured by the Shulton Company that was founded in 1934 by William Lightfoot Schultz.

Early American Old Spice was developed around a colonial theme. When Old Spice was introduced, William Lightfoot Schultz was interested in maintaining a colonial framework for those products and chose a nautical theme for Old Spice. Thus, sailing ships, in particular colonial sailing ships, were used as a trademark. Through continuous use and advertising, the various ships have become a valuable trademark identifying the Old Spice product for men.

The original ships used on the packaging were the Grand Turk and the Friendship. Other ships used on Old Spice packaging include the Wesley, Salem, Birmingham and Hamilton.

Procter & Gamble purchased the Old Spice fragrances, Skin Care and Antiperspirant and Deodorant products from the Shulton Company in June 1990.

Since purchasing the Old Spice line, P&G has continued to provide many of the original Old Spice products as well as introducing several new products that have enhanced the Old Spice line.

Psalm 22

Psalm 22 English Standard Version (ESV)

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

22 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
    and by night, but I find no rest.
Yet you are holy,
    enthroned on the praises[a] of Israel.
In you our fathers trusted;
    they trusted, and you delivered them.
To you they cried and were rescued;
    in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
But I am a worm and not a man,
    scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
    they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
“He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him;
    let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”
Yet you are he who took me from the womb;
    you made me trust you at my mother's breasts.
10 On you was I cast from my birth,
    and from my mother's womb you have been my God.
11 Be not far from me,
    for trouble is near,
    and there is none to help.
12 Many bulls encompass me;
    strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
13 they open wide their mouths at me,
    like a ravening and roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
    it is melted within my breast;
15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
    and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
    you lay me in the dust of death.
16 For dogs encompass me;
    a company of evildoers encircles me;
they have pierced my hands and feet[b]
17 I can count all my bones—
they stare and gloat over me;
18 they divide my garments among them,
    and for my clothing they cast lots.
19 But you, O Lord, do not be far off!
    O you my help, come quickly to my aid!
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
    my precious life from the power of the dog!
21     Save me from the mouth of the lion!
You have rescued[c] me from the horns of the wild oxen!
22 I will tell of your name to my brothers;
    in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
    All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,
    and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or abhorred
    the affliction of the afflicted,
and he has not hidden his face from him,
    but has heard, when he cried to him.
25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation;
    my vows I will perform before those who fear him.
26 The afflicted[d] shall eat and be satisfied;
    those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
    May your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
    and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
    shall worship before you.
28 For kingship belongs to the Lord,
    and he rules over the nations.
29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
    before him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
    even the one who could not keep himself alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him;
    it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
    that he has done it.

Eau Sauvage by Dior turns 50

Eau Sauvage is a perfume for men produced by Parfums Christian Dior. The perfume was introduced in 1966.

The first perfume for men by DiorIt was created by perfumer Edmond Roudnitska.

The name of the fragrance is reputedly the result of a late arrival by Christian Dior's friend Percy Savage to Dior's home. Dior had asked Savage to help find a name for a perfume for men. When Savage arrived, he was announced by Dior's butler as "Monsieur Sauvage"; the designer decided that "Oh, Sauvage" would be a fitting name. Born from a desire for renewal, Eau Sauvage burst onto the scene in 1966, shifting everything in its wake. Unexpected and unprecedented, Eau Sauvage mirrors the changes the young were living at the time. Young people bubbling with life, seeking a new truth.

Since then, Eau Sauvage has gained an enviable status as a great classic. Its boldness has turned into an absolute reference. It has held its appeal from generation to generation, with impressive consistency.

This is a fresh perfume which can be easily recognized among other fresh fragrances. Clear and fresh scent of lemon and bitter-fresh rosemary are combined perfectly with masculine, woody nuances of a base.

The perfume was introduced in 1966 and created in cooperation with perfumer Edmond Roudnitska. The creator made the perfume legendary and characteristic for its fresh, citrusy notes, composed with spicy lavender on a masculine, woody base.

The fragrance incorporates the following accords: lemon, basil, bergamot, cumin, lavender and fruit. A heart blooms with jasmine, rose, carnation, iris root, coriander, patchouli and sandalwood. Base notes bring us oak moss, vetiver, musk and amber. The flacon was designed by Pierre Dinand.

Marines brace for mandatory sensitivity training

If you need more proof that the Obama administration has turned the greatest fighting force on the planet into a social engineering petri dish, just consider what’s about to be forced upon the Marine Corps.

Marines will soon be forced to attend “unconscious bias” training – in advance of the women joining the infantry.

The seminar will focus on how people prejudge others based on factors like race and gender, and principals of institutional change, Miltary.com reports.

“There’s no doubt we’re leading cultural change,” Brig. Gen. James Glynn told the website. “It’s not the first time for the Marine Corps, but we like a challenge.”

That could be a mighty big challenge. A Center for Naval Analyses survey found a “significant majority” of male Marines opposed having women serve in ground combat jobs.

Mobile training teams will be dispatched across the Corps started in May.

“The purpose of the mobile training team is to begin to facilitate the cultural change…you’ve got to have the conservation,” Glynn said.

So what kind of agenda items can Marines expect to discuss during their sensitivity training sessions?

Col. Anne Weinberg described one of the potential questions to Military.com reporters.

“You’re in the field, you only have this certain amount of space for billeting and you’ve got three women and six guys. How are you going to billet?” she asked.

How in the world are the Marines supposed to get combat training, when they are deluged with sensitivity training and equal opportunity training and sexual harassment training?

“All that time squandered on this stuff is time you are not spending training for war,” Army Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (Ret.) told me.

Peters, who is also a military analyst for Fox News Channel, railed against the military’s quest to be politically correct.

“If I could make one change to improve our combat effectiveness in the military – it would be turning all those equal opportunity and sensitivity trainers and counselors into combat rifleman,” he said. “We need more rifles. We don’t need any more sensitivity.”

Regimental Striped Ties

repp-striped-neckties

Stripes are one of the most popular patterns for men’s neckties. In fact, the diagonal striped look is one of the oldest tie designs, dating back to the 1880s in England. Since then, designers have combined any imaginable color, texture, and pattern to create an endless choice in striped tie designs. Because classic striped ties are such a timeless accessory that any man, regardless of style preference, can take advantage of, we decided to write this style guide.

The Origin of the Regimental Tie
Regimentals had their origin in Great Britain. To help identify themselves in battle, British soldiers used their regiments’ colors on their company’s flags and pieces of silk, and when not in service these soldiers proudly wore their regimental colors on their neckties. Later on, around the 1920s, regimental ties were expanded to include private clubs, schools, and universities.

The regimental tie made it to the US thanks to the Price of Whales in 1919. While visiting the US he wore a red and navy striped tie of the Grenadier Guards – a regiment where he had previously been an officer. To the repulse of the British, who strongly believe that one can only wear those colors that one carries membership to, the Americans quickly adopted the regimental tie as a fashion statement. That being said, for those visiting the British isles chose your striped ties carefully. For more information please also check out our guide to Business Dress Code in Great Britain.

Suits vs. Sports Coats

Both, suits as well as sports coats and classic blazers are perfect for your classic striped neckties. In terms of suits, excellent are classic 2-button cuts as well as dark blue colors. Both, single-breasted as well as double-breasted styles work well in combination with regimental ties. While classic blue suits are great for these ties, sports coats and traditional blazers can be a great alternative.

Hungarian PM: “Europe is not free. Because freedom begins with speaking the truth.”

This is a historic speech. Viktor Orban is a champion of freedom amid the enveloping darkness. “We must therefore drag the ancient virtue of courage out from under the silt of oblivion. First of all we must put steel in our spines.” Luminous and lapidary words shining like a spotlight out of the gloom.

Here is the complete translation of Victor Orban’s speech (via The Rebel):
The destiny of the Hungarians has become intertwined with that of Europe’s nations and has grown to be so much a part of the union that today not a single people — including the Hungarian people — can be free if Europe is not free.
And today Europe is as fragile, weak and sickly as “a flower being eaten away by a hidden worm.” Today, 168 years after the great Wars of Independence of the European peoples, Europe, our common home is not free!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Europe is not free. Because freedom begins with speaking the truth.
Today in Europe it is forbidden to speak the truth.
Even if it is made of silk, a muzzle is a muzzle.
It is forbidden to say that those arriving are not refugees, but that Europe is threatened by migration.
It is forbidden to say that tens of millions are ready to set out in our direction.
It is forbidden to say that immigration brings crime and terror to our countries.
It is forbidden to point out that the masses arriving from other civilizationsendanger our way of life, our culture, our customs and our Christian traditions.
It is forbidden to point out that those who arrived earlier have already built up their own new, separate world for themselves, with its own laws and ideals, which is forcing apart the thousand-year-old structure of Europe.
It is forbidden to point out that this is not an accidental and unintentional chain of consequences, but a preplanned and orchestrated operation; a mass of people directed towards us.
It is forbidden to say that in Brussels they are concocting schemes to transport foreigners here as quickly as possible and to settle them here among us.
It is forbidden to point out that the purpose of settling people here is to reshape the religious and cultural landscape of Europe, and to reengineer its ethnic foundations — thereby eliminating the last barrier to internationalism: the nation-states.
It is forbidden to say that Brussels is now stealthily devouring more and more slices of our national sovereignty, and that in Brussels many are now making a plan for a United States of Europe — for which no one has ever given authorisation.
Ladies and Gentlemen,Today’s enemies of freedom are cut from a different cloth than the royal and imperial rulers of old, or those who ran the Soviet system; they use a different set of tools to force us into submission.
Today they do not imprison us, they do not transport us to concentration camps, and they do not send in tanks to occupy countries loyal to freedom.
Today the international media’s artillery bombardments, denunciations, threats and blackmail are enough — or rather, have been enough so far.
The peoples of Europe are slowly awakening, they are regrouping, and will soon regain ground.
Europe’s beams that rest on the suppression of truth are creaking and cracking.
The peoples of Europe may have finally understood that their future is at stake:
Now not only are their prosperity, cosy lives, jobs at stake, but our very security and the peaceful order of our lives are menaced as well.
At last, the peoples of Europe, who have been slumbering in abundance and prosperity, have understood that the principles of life that Europe has been built on are in mortal danger.
Europe is the community of Christian, free, and independent nations; equality of men and women; fair competition and solidarity; pride and humility; justice and mercy.
This time the danger is not attacking us the way wars and natural disasters do, suddenly pulling the rug from under our feet.
Mass migration is a slow stream of water persistently eroding the shores.
It is masquerading as a humanitarian cause, but its true nature is the occupation of territory.
And what is gaining territory for them is losing territory for us.
Flocks of obsessed human rights defenders feel the overwhelming urge to reprimand us and to make allegations against us.
Allegedly we are hostile xenophobes, but the truth is that the history of our nation is also one of inclusion. and the history of intertwining of cultures.
Those who have sought to come here as new family members, as allies, or as displaced persons fearing for their lives have been let in to make a new home for themselves.
But those who have come here with the intention of changing our country, shaping our nation in their own image, those who have come with violence and against our will — have always been met with resistance.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
At first, they talk about only a few hundred, a thousand or two thousand relocated people.
But not a single responsible European leader would dare to swear under oath that this couple of thousand will not eventually increase to tens or hundreds of thousands.
If we want to halt this mass migration, first we must curb Brussels.
The main danger to Europe’s future does not come from those who want to come here, but from Brussels’ fanatical internationalism.
We should not allow Brussels to place itself above the law.
We shall not allow it to force upon us the bitter fruit of its cosmopolitan immigration policy.
We shall not import to Hungary crime, terrorism, homophobia and synagogue-burning anti-Semitism.
There shall be no urban districts beyond the reach of the law, there shall be no mass disorder.
No immigrant riots here, and there shall be no gangs hunting down our women and daughters.
We shall not allow others to tell us whom we can let into our home and country, whom we will live alongside, and with whom we will share our country.
We know how these things go. First we allow them to tell us whom we must take in, then they force us to serve foreigners in our own country.
In the end we find ourselves being told to pack up and leave our own land.
Therefore we reject the forced resettlement scheme, and we shall tolerate neither blackmail, nor threats.
The time has come to ring the warning bell. The time has come for opposition and resistance.
The time has come to gather allies to us. The time has come to raise the flag of proud nations.
The time has come to prevent the destruction of Europe, and to save the future of Europe.
To this end, regardless of party affiliation, we call on every citizen of Hungary to unite, and we call on every European nation to unite.
The leaders and citizens of Europe must no longer live in two separate worlds. We must restore the unity of Europe. We the peoples of Europe cannot be free individually if we are not free together.
If we unite our forces, we shall succeed; if we pull in different directions, we shall fail.
Together we are strength, disunited we are weakness. Either together, or not at all — today this is the law.
Hungarians, In 1848 it was written in the book of fate that nothing could be done against the Habsburg Empire. If we had then resigned ourselves to that outcome, our fate would have been sealed, and the German sea would have swallowed up the Hungarians.
In 1956 it was written in the book of fate that we were to remain an occupied and sovietised country, until patriotism was extinguished in the very last Hungarian.
If then we had resigned ourselves to that outcome, our fate would have been sealed, and the Soviet sea would have swallowed up the Hungarians.
Today it is written in the book of fate that hidden, faceless world powers will eliminate everything that is unique, autonomous, age-old and national.
They will blend cultures, religions and populations, until our many-faceted and proud Europe will finally become bloodless and docile.
And if we resign ourselves to this outcome, our fate will be sealed, and we will be swallowed up in the enormous belly of the United States of Europe.
The task which awaits the Hungarian people, the nations of Central Europe and the other European nations which have not yet lost all common sense is to defeat, rewrite and transform the fate intended for us.
We Hungarians and Poles know how to do this. We have been taught that one can only look danger in the face if one is brave enough.
We must therefore drag the ancient virtue of courage out from under the silt of oblivion.
First of all we must put steel in our spines, and we must answer clearly, with a voice loud enough to be heard far and wide, the foremost, the single most important question determining our fate:
The question upon which the future of Europe stands or falls is this:
“Shall we be slaves or men set free — That is the question, answer me!”
Go for it Hungary, go for it Hungarians!

Petraeus says Clinton being Treated Fairly

In an interview with the Fox Business channel, David Petraeus said he believes Hillary Clinton is being treated fairly by investigators, contrary to “conspiracy theories” coming from both sides.
She’s being treated fairly. And I think that, you know, there are people…there are critics who will claim otherwise. There are supporters actually who will claim otherwise. Both sides are given to fantastical conspiracy theories. I think the debate among them and the treatment actually has been fair. And I think we’ll see how this plays out.
Petraeus was given two years probation and a fine for sharing information with his biographer Paula Broadwell. The case has often been compared to the situation with Hillary Clinton because both cases involve a high profile government appointee and classified information. Another similarity the cases is share is that (so far at least) there is no proof that the mishandling of classified information resulted in that information winding up in the hands of a foreign government. In Petraeus’ case, he showed books of classified information to Broadwell but that information never appeared in her book or anywhere else.

ELCA Bishop Protesting Trump

Whether you like Donald Trump or not, the statements and planned actions of Timothy Marcus Smith, Bishop of North Carolina Synod, ELCA are disgraceful. He is rallying people and going to a planned speaking engagement to protest against Donald Trump. It will be at Lenoir-Rhyne University, an ELCA school that has invited Mr. Trump to speak.

Here is a part of what the bishop said last Friday:

"My position: This candidate, in my opinion not only as a private citizen but as a bishop in this Church, is a farce, an embarrassment, and a danger to nearly everything I hold dear. That he this late in the game is still leading one of our major political parties with his rhetoric fueled by fear and anger is diametrically opposed to any reckoning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ I can imagine. Even leading 'Evangelicals' have said as much.

My plan: Assuming he indeed shows up, I plan to be there, clerical collar and bishop's cross on, to protest NOT the fact that he's there but his platform that would deny refugees access, that would invoke violence at every turn, and that would stir up bigotry and hatred. I could go on, but you get the point. I would be deeply honored to be the one escorted out or even punched out as the heckler that Trump so condescendingly points out at each rally. But I won't try to drive out hate with more hate and anger. I will stand there, pray, sing, march, chant, wave signs, whatever I need to do and with whatever consequence to say, 'This is not who we are, America. This is not who we are, North Carolina. This is not who we are, Church.' And I hope the reporters and the cameras are there, and I hope they might care what I/we have to say in the name of Jesus."

ELCA bishop Timothy Marcus Smith has asked for others to join him and from the looks of the comments he is getting on Facebook, there will be a bunch of ELCA pastors and members doing just that. The bishop's Facebook post has garnered nearly 900 "likes."

The bishop's statement is another example of the typical rhetoric of the ELCA and liberals --to brand anyone who disagrees with them on certain policies a "hater" or "racist." They have done so to Bible-believing Lutherans for at least the last 6 years. And is trying to silence someone and disrupt someone's speech really a Godly action?

Department of Justice Discusses Prosecuting Climate Change Deniers

attorney general
The US Department of Justice has been considering whether people should be prosecuted for the offense of climate change denial.

“This matter has been discussed. We have received information about it and have referred it to the FBI to consider whether or not it meets the criteria for which we could take action on,” said Attorney General Loretta Lynch, responding to a question from green activist
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) at a Senate Judiciary Hearing.

ELCA Pastor: 'Gender-Neutral Hymnal Concession to Culture'

A conservative minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America says he and other ELCA pastors are disturbed by the denomination's approval of a new, more gender-neutral hymnal.

At its Churchwide Assembly in early August, the ELCA okayed a plan to update the 1978 Lutheran Book of Worship by eliminating the "Father" terminology and male pronouns used in reference to God.

The hymnal overhaul will include other gender-neutralizing and diversity-affirming changes to traditional Lutheran worship lyrics and liturgies as well. For example, in the Lutheran Creed, God and Jesus will now be referred to as "Holy Eternal Majesty" and "Holy Incarnate Word" instead of "Father" and "Son."

Dr. Roy Harrisville is executive director of Solid Rock Lutherans, a conservative group whose mission is to call the ELCA to "remain faithful to the Word of God according to the Lutheran Confessions."

Obama's Empty Judicial Chairs

On a hot day in June, the grandson of a bank president took to the floor of the Senate to denounce the daughter of sharecroppers. "I feel compelled to rise on this issue to express, in the strongest terms, my opposition to the nomination of Janice Rogers Brown to the DC Circuit," Senator Obama said.

Born in segregated Alabama, Janice Rogers Brown had been a leftist like Obama before becoming conservative. When Obama rose to denounce the respected African-American jurist for her political views it had been almost a full two years since President Bush had nominated her in the summer of ’03.

Obama had arrived a few months earlier on his way to the White House and was eager to impress his left-wing backers with his political radicalism. He held forth complaining that Judge Janice Rogers Brown, who had gone to segregated schools and become the first African-American woman on the California Supreme Court, was guilty of “an unyielding belief in an unfettered free market.”

And he filibustered Judge Brown, along with other nominee, trying to deny them a vote.

“She has equated altruism with communism. She equates even the most modest efforts to level life's playing field with somehow inhibiting our liberty,” he fumed.

Brown, who due to her family background knew far more of slavery than Obama, had indeed warned about the dangers of a powerful government. "In the heyday of liberal democracy, all roads lead to slavery. And we no longer find slavery abhorrent. We embrace it. We demand more. Big government is not just the opiate of the masses. It is the opiate -- the drug of choice -- for multinational corporations and single moms, for regulated industries and rugged Midwestern farmers and militant senior citizens.”

Obama viewed her opposition to “our very own ‘Socialist revolution’” as disqualifying. Ideology was the only judicial test that ever mattered to him. Not scholarship. Not qualification. Not ability. He plots to force another radical nominee in place of the deceased Justice Scalia whom he had said would not have been nominated despite his “intellectual brilliance” because “he and I just disagree.”

When filibustering Justice Alito, Obama rejected the idea that the Senate should approve a judge just because he might be “intellectually capable and an all-around nice guy.” The key test was “ideology.” Justice Alito was an “an intelligent man and an accomplished jurist” who had the “the training and qualifications necessary to serve,” but he was from the wrong side of the political tracks.

And Obama put party over country and radical ideology over party.

He “profoundly” disagreed with Justice Clarence Thomas. He conceded that Justice Roberts “is qualified to sit on the highest court in the land” and that “he is humble, he is personally decent, and he appears to be respectful of different points of view,” but he voted against him because he has the wrong “political philosophy.”

It was all about politics. It was always about politics for Obama.

Democrats and their media allies demand a prompt and immediate “up and down vote” on his nominee.

But when Obama voted against Judge Priscilla Owen, despite her highest rating, Democrats had blocked her nomination for four years. That’s an entire presidential term. Owen was nominated by Bush in his first year in office. Despite being a moderate, Owen only got a full Senate vote during Bush’s second term. Obama had fought to filibuster her even though Owen was generally considered a moderate.

Obama filibustered Judge William Pryor, who had replaced Judge William Steele, who had never even gotten a hearing as part of a process that also took four years from first nomination to confirmation.

Bush had nominated Judge Pickering in ’01 and he was blocked in committee, falsely smeared as a racist and then filibustered by Senate Democrats to deny him the “up and down vote” that they are now busy clamoring for. After three years, Pickering gave up and was replaced by Wallace, who was also blocked by Senate Democrats for a year and denied a vote. Six years later, Bush was still trying with Judge Southwick who had served in Iraq. He was also denied an “up and down” vote until the end of 2007.

Senator Obama fought Judge Southwick’s nomination insisting on the need for a “consensus candidate” and claimed that his nomination would “threaten the very basis of our freedom and democracy.”

And only Obama was supposed to be allowed to do that.

By the time Senate Democrats finally approved a Bush nominee, a presidential term and a half had passed. Those numbers should put any of the current rhetoric about a “prompt process” and the right to an “up and down vote” to rest. If failing to move forward with a judicial nomination is a violation of the Constitution, then Obama and his political party were in violation of it under President Bush.

If it isn’t, then they are shameless liars who will say anything to get their way.

At their worst, Senate Democrats actually kept a judicial seat open for their choice, Judge Andre Davis, for Bush's entire two terms in office, by blocking all Republican nominees on one pretext on another until Obama took office. The seat stayed open not for a year or two or even six, but for nine years.

Senate Democrats have not only denied an “up and down vote” on Republican nominees for entire presidential terms, they have smeared them and destroyed their lives.
