Seeing the bent steeple in Minneapolis with my own eyes was the straw that broke our camel's back.

Thank you so much for your insughtful comments.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!El Cidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10541350679599893588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7836913940174924373.post-1061676655114098022010-12-23T18:22:01.192-08:002010-12-23T18:22:01.192-08:00To be an ELCA pastor who has chosen to leave the E...To be an ELCA pastor who has chosen to leave the ELCA is a very courageous step.

By contrast, ours turned out to be very easy. My wife and I left the ELCA shortly after the August 2009 disaster. But the issue was not just homosexuality, although that turned out to be the straw that broke the camel's back (as the saying goes). With its taste for extremist secular politics, the ELCA felt like belonging to an ecclesiastic version of MoveOn dot Org.

I would love to have seen my old ELCA congregation vote to leave the ELCA. But as far as I know, no vote will ever take place. Based upon what I know of the congregation I would guess that some oppose the ELCA's decision, more support it, but the majority are indifferent, believing that what happens in the national church will not affect them.

At any rate, may you have a blessed Christmas!Recovering Lutheranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14681139117745192567noreply@blogger.com
